The history of the Chestermere Public Library began with the dream of a committed group of community members even before 1993 when the bylaw was passed to form the Chestermere Library Board. This dream became reality on November 27th, 2007 when the Library opened its doors and collections to the people of Chestermere and Rocky View County. This project has been a demanding one made successful mainly through the hard work and passion of the many members of the community that supported the vision of having our own library in Chestermere.
Through perseverance, library advocacy and fundraising, the library is now a successful reality and a community place. It’s with thanks to all of you who supported and worked toward this amazing community resource that this facility has become a reality.
We are in our third full year and the progress in the library has been incredible! Thanks to the hard work of the Chestermere Public Library Foundation and the generosity of local donors, we have been able to increase the depth and breadth of our books, music, movies and recorded book collections. We currently have almost 30,000 items at the library for your enjoyment and interest. We can get materials from almost any library in Alberta—we checked out over 70,000 books, cds, DVDs and MP3s in 2009! With your library card you can access databases of articles and information covering current events, medicine, car repair, agriculture and hobbies—from the comfort of your own home!
We continue to add programs and try to meet the requests of the community-- Almost 5000 people attended over 230 programs last year! Let us know what you’d like to see in your library. We have added storytimes to try to accommodate all of the little people that like to participate; we have a seniors' social morning every week, two thriving book clubs and a variety of informative programs and entertaining movies. With the success of the Rural Information Services initiativE (RISE) we are able to offer more programs and services via videoconferencing. This technology has saved many trips to other cities and towns, helping to save money and reduce the carbon footprint while tapping into information from faraway places.
We ask for your continued support through your membership and use of the library and its resources. Tell all of your friends! Located in the lower level of town hall, with a beautiful view of the lake, the library is a place to read, use the computers, study, enjoy programs and meet friends.
Join us in making the Chestermere Public Library the best it can be!
