Can you believe it has been two years since we opened the doors of our lovely library by the lake? So much has happened! In the past year we have focused a great deal of time, energy, and resources to creating an extensive collection for our customers. Although there is always room for improvement, we are proud of how both our collection and programs have grown.

There have been some exciting things happening since our first anniversary. First of all, we have developed a meaningful and very rewarding partnership with the local Lion’s Club chapter. The Lions have donated time and funds to help with the summer and winter reading programs and they have helped us grow our collection of audio/visual materials. We are fortunate to have the support of such a dedicated group and look forward to continuing our partnership well into the future.

The library, in conjunction with the Chestermere Public Library Foundation, has been working diligently to apply for a variety of government grants. We received a substantial Community Initiatives Program (CIP) grant and have been able to dedicate these funds to improving our collection to bring it closer to Provincial standards, including books, audio-books and music CDs, visual media materials (DVDs), magazines and periodicals as well as some resources to further enhance accessibility.

There is nothing as good as a warm quilt at your feet on a cold winter’s day...and thanks to the Chestermere Quilters Guild we were able to raffle off a work of art this winter! The beautifully crafted “Bookshelf Quilt” was proudly displayed in the library for two months as we anxiously awaited the January 19th draw date. Our lucky winner’s name was drawn in conjunction with the Torch relay ceremonies, so a toasty day was had by all!

Break out the pearls and dust off your Oxfords the Roaring 20s are alive and well! The Chestermere Public Library Foundation is, once again, hosting a gala fundraising event. The event will be taking place at the Lakeside Greens Golf Course, April 24th, 2010. Join us for an evening of music, food, and fun while supporting the cornerstone of our community: the library! Silent and live auctions will prove to be another highlight so come prepared to break out the cheque book and have a roaring good time. Tax receipts provided, for ticket information please call Ruth at (403) 284-3645 or e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   Don’t wait long, capacity is limited!

We want to take this opportunity to thank the community for helping to make our library such a success.  We continue to add programs and try to meet the requests of the community-- Almost 5000 people attended over 230 programs last year! Let us know what you’d like to see in your library. We have added storytimes to try to accommodate all of the little people that like to participate; we have a seniors' social morning every week, two thriving book clubs and a variety of informative programs and entertaining movies. With the success of the Rural Information Services initiativE (RISE) we are able to offer more programs and services via videoconferencing. This technology has saved many trips to other cities and towns, helping to save money and reduce the carbon footprint while tapping into information from faraway places.

That’s quite an accomplishment after a mere two years of business! Library memberships make wonderful gifts for that new neighbour, precious newborn or favourite senior. Drop by today and see what everyone is talking about and remember to read, research, and relax!

Join us in making the Chestermere Public Library the best it can be!
